Why a Finishing Book?
I'll be the first to admit that the woodworking world doesn't need another reference-level finishing book. Well-respected authors like Flexner, Jewitt, Dresdner, and Masaschi have covered the topic thoroughly over the years and there's no reason to duplicate that effort. But the reality is, not every woodworker has the desire to be a master finisher, and these reference books can be quite daunting. Nonetheless, its our responsibility to produce a finish that is consistent with the quality of our craftsmanship. So the purpose of this book is to provide solid real-world finishing advice without feeding you a bunch of extra details you don't really need. If you find yourself continually frustrated by finishing and you don't have a desire to dig into the big reference books, this is the book for you.

It's not Krenov... and you'll be grateful
Like the DVD, Marc cuts right to the chase. As noted by Charles Neil, he lays out a true and accurate map, but unlike other authors, Marc cuts out the fat and bone and serves pure filet. Also like the DVD, once consumed, a woodworker can feel confident in overcoming most of the finishing trips and traps that can detract from the zen of woodworking.
A great companion for WW site surfing, the book also notes appropriate WW web pages of supporting information.
It is a pleasure watching Marc do his thing. He, almost uniquely, blends both art and scientific rigor into a practical alchemy for the contemporary woodworker.
